Note About Scanning

Since we don't select work based on quality, it is not necessary to send in a high quality and expensive scan. A scan from a home scanner or FedEx Office* works just fine. The scans are used to plan the exhibit and allow for selection based on subject matter and color. The scans are also used for publicity material and the artist bio book.

Education of our members is part of GRC's mission and learning about scanning, resizing files and adjusting the resolution of scans is a valuable part of the entry process. It can prepare you for entering national and international exhibits.

We realize however that not everyone is comfortable with the cost of scanning and not everyone aspires to enter ASBA exhibits where scanning skills are essential. We will therefore allow a digital photo of your work this year instead of a scan. The drawback of entering a digital photo is that it will most likely not be of high enough quality to use in publicity material or in the artist bio book, in which case your page in that book will not have an image.

All entered images must be digital, 300 dpi, images max. 8” high, full color, jpg file format. Label CDs or DVDs with your name and the title of each image on the label. Individual file names for each image on your disc should include last name, first name and plant name.

*We do not recommend using FedEx Office (formerly Kinko’s) for scanning large pieces, since they use equipment with rollers that may damage your artwork. Ask FedEx if your piece will fit onto their flatbed scanner.

Note About Framing

We will continue to follow ASBA framing guidelines and require a single, off-white mat and a light to medium brown wood, L-shaped frame. All frames should be wired for hanging. Check out Blick, Utrecht and even Ikea for economical options.

I don't think there is a need for security hardware at this venue, but let me know if you're more comfortable with that.
