Happy 25th, ASBA!

The American Society of Botanical Art celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Founded in 1994 with just 200 members, it has grown to the vibrant organization that it is today with over 1700 botanical artists from around the world. A 25th Anniversary Committee has been assembled to mark the occasion, and they want our participation. Chapters and Circles have received their own “Celebrating Silver” invitations. You, the botanical artists of the Great River Chapter, each got one, too.

A special “Celebrating Silver” art catalog is going to be published, and each member in good standing is eligible to submit a scanned image of an artwork on the 'silver' theme to be included. You may use the media of your choice, including silverpoint, but all subjects must be of a plant with silver in its scientific or common name, or have a silvery appearance.  Examples are Silver Birch (name) and Dusty Miller (appearance). If perchance you need further inspiration, search for “silver looking plants” online, and then, when you’ve recovered, try “silver-looking succulent plants.” There’s a mother lode out there waiting to be mined. Details can be found on the Call for Entries page of the ASBA. Go to https://www.asba-art.org/calls-for-entries/celebrating-silver. The hope is that every member will submit a silvery something. Participants will receive a copy; additional copies will be available to purchase. The catalog is the first project to be supported by the ASBA's Acorn Fund. Join with your botanical art colleagues to make this celebration a bright and shining example of what can happen when members, together, create a new thing .Submission dates are February 10, 2019 - June 10, 2019.
