Arboretum: Lecture & Lunch

The day starts at 11:00am with a presentation in the Carlson dining Room:

Plants that Drove People Crazy

Certain plants have a history of kindling mankind's need to possess them.  They were objects of desire not only for their beauty, but also their scarcity, bizarreness, and newness to society.  They were deemed to be worth fortunes, travail, and risk of life and limb.  Kathy Allen, Librarian, Andersen Horticultural Library (AHL), will recount a few of these stories - Tulipmania, Pteridomania, and Orchidelirium among them - illustrated with images from the AHL's special collections.

Following the lecture, we'll get lunch from the Arboretum cafeteria and reassemble in the Carlson Dining Room for social time together before heading out to enjoy the many attractions of the Arboretum, including the Nature in Glass exhibit and Prince Charles' Highgrove Floralegium. 

This members-only event is limited to 20 participants*, so reserve your space early.  Registration includes free admission and parking at the Arboretum.  We will each purchase our own lunch. 
Be sure to bring your sketching materials!  

*If there is room, guest registrations may be offered after July 1 at $10 per person, one guest per member.
